Jimbo (Xuanya) Huang, from the Hyde School of Nanshan Second Foreign Languages School, an ISC Partner School, won a competition at the 2019 Montessori Model UN Program in Shenzhen. The theme for the 2019 MIUN World Youth Summit was the Nuclear Threat on the Korean Peninsula. On behalf of the Republic of Korea, Jimbo gave an impressive speech on the nuclear threat and its possible solutions. Her knowledge, Intelligence and quick responses left a deep impression on the judges and audience.
Following a four month student selection process for this MMUN Competition, ten students were selected from 1,000 primary and secondary students participating who will attend the MMUN World Youth Summit at the United Nations in New York on March 15, 2019. More than 2,000 young people from more than 100 countries will meet to dialogue about the current nuclear threat and possible solutions.
Over the last four years 40 young people from Shenzhen have participated in the UN World Youth Summits. The purpose of this program for Shenzhen is to enhance the quality of Shenzhen teenager’s participation in international affairs. The event is supported in Shenzhen by the Municipal Working Committee Concerned about the Next Generation, the Municipal Education Science Research Institute, the Municipal Education League Work Committee, the Municipal Education Development Foundation, the Special Fund for Youth International Literacy Development, and the Longhua District Education Bureau.
